It's a rainy afternoon in Jerusalem. I've stayed an additional week to spend time with Dr. Eliyahu Rips (see his photograph and read about him by clicking here). The additional days in Israel are filled with colors and feelings. I meet my second cousin, Jess Cantelon, for the first time, an accomplished musician with a beautiful CD, "City of Gold". I hope to share more about Jess and his music on this website. I walk through the Damascus Gate, always an adventure. Inside the gates you are absorbed into this other world, the sounds and smells of an ancient world, rain slick cobblestones, merchants, mothers carrying their children. The market is filled with bargains. I buy a nicley made rain jacket, fleece lined, for less than two dollars, and drink coffee in one of the small cafes, thick Turkish liquid, loaded with sugar, in a glass. When the rain shows no sign of abating, I navigate the twisting streets in the direction of the Jaffa Gate.
