Entrance to the Ethiopian chapel in the old city, one of my favorite destinations in Jerusalem. The electricity went out during my visit and the chapel was obscured in total darkness. One of the priests lit a candle and stood at the front of the chapel as a large delegation of Nigerian pilgrims arrived. While they filed through the narrow chapel, I stood next to the priest, waiting for them to file by. With my beard, long coat, and wool cap, many of the pilgrims mistook me for being one of the chapel staff, and greeted me warmly. The doorway, above, leads out of the chapel onto a quiet square built on the rooftop of the coptic cathedral.
