Rwanda Journal

A trip that would normally take a few hours, now takes nearly 24. This is the road from Goma, south to
the safer haven of Bukavu. Tens of thousands of Rwandans, exiled by the war, are hoping to find better
conditions south of the Goma camps. On both sides of the roads the refugees have set up camp, many
too tired or ill to continue. I ride in a truck that belongs to a relief organization, and we jolt and shudder
along. An Irish team is following us with their truck, picking up the corpses.
