Towards evening we stop during our journey south from Goma. Les Medecins sans Frontiers (Doctors Without
Borders) have set up movable hospital stations. Along the route, small villages spring up in the smoke-filled
dusk. An avocado vendor, above, moves among the crowd, selling his wares. Between Goma and Bukavu,
while nearly everything was in short supply, there was a mysterious abundance of avocados.
