Bigg Slice Dreams of Change by Lee Cantelon

He is standing next to a 1966 Cadillac that is the "Snoop de Ville." It belongs to rap artist, Snoop Dogg, and was a custom project that he dreamed into reality, including the three crystal chandeliers, platinum pin striping, and one-of-a-kind chrome wheels. Bigg Slice is soaking up the late afternoon Los Angeles sunshine, and the attention of admirers who are obviously mesmerized by "Angel Dust," as the car is called.

But what makes this scene unique is the steady stream of positive spirituality that is coming from the man himself. Bigg is talking, to anyone who will listen, about God, redemption, and how he was rescued from the mean streets of South Central Los Angeles, given a chance to dream, and be a force for change.

"God gave me a chance," he says, and his smile is as bright as the chrome that glints from the car he is leaning on. "Where I come from, everyone is dealing drugs, selling crack, doing that thing as a way of life. But God had a different plan. He reached down and gave me a chance to go his way."

How did this happen? Bigg loves telling this part of the story, how he discovered that he had a talent for customizing cars. He was able to negotiate his skills to get out of the ghetto. "Now, I realize that this was God showing me a way out. I want to tell kids that they don't have to do the drug thing. I want them to be able to find their own individual dream and go with it, and not wind up in the dead end that doing drugs leads to."

With his friend, Warren Holden, he is working to create a website that will reach young people with his message. He also wants to make a television program that shares his love for cars and his message of hope. It's a mission that will surely find a broad audience world-wide, and one that we will be following (and supporting) closely, in the months to come.
