The
Son of Man Has No Place to Lay His Head
by David Goatley

My father
first told me about this painting, having met David prior to our knowing
one another. He was impressed by the image of Christ sitting next to a
campfire with a group of homeless men, and called to tell me about it
and the English artist who was living a few miles up the island (on Vancouver
Island). My subsequent friendship with David has allowed me to know intimately
his commitment to explore his faith and understanding of the person of
Christ in his paintings. Still, this image is one of the first I think
of when his name comes to mind. No matter where we are, or what condition
we find ourselves in, there Christ is in our midst. This painting communicates
this so memorably.
