Branch
We often use branch as an idiom for growth or to signify prosperity. A thriving business establishes branch offices. Family trees branch out as lives entwine.

In the Old Testament, a "branch" was a prophetic symbol - a symbol of hope. The Israelites knew that one branch of the family tree, representing the Messiah, would save them. Jesus was the branch. His death and resurrection ensured that people could become a "branch" on God's family tree.

When Old Testament prophets foretold the Messiah's coming, one of the ways they referred to him was as a branch.
Isaiah 4:2; 11:1
Jeremiah 23:5; 33:15
Zechariah 3:8
Branches can also represent people who are actively serving Jesus Christ.

The Bible uses severed branches as an illustration of being separated from God.
