Lying
Remember Pinocchio, the wooden puppet who longed to become a real boy? Though he tried so hard to become human, his habit of lying kept getting in the way. In the Christian life, sins such as lying often interfere with a good relationship with God. While we may not take lying seriously, it is a sign of a depraved, or corrupt life without Christ. When we purposely deceive people, we change our allegiance from God to Satan, who is called the "father of lies" (John 8:44).

Satan has always tried to get humankind to believe his falsehoods, starting with his attempt to convince Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden. Believing Satan's lies pulls us away from God. Lies can keep us from searching for God, and they can allow Satan to infiltrate the church, erecting barriers that keep others from following God. The best way to counter Satan's untruths is to know God's Word and spend time with God in prayer. When we know the truth we can detect the lies.

God doesn't lie.
