Righteous
In the German language, righteousness and justice (see Justice) are the
same word. Righteousness is not merely goodness; nor is it self-righteousness,
which smugly justifies hypocritical behavior. Righteousness is a lawful,
equitable standard of evaluation. Is measures actions, motives and intentions
against God's holiness (see Holy).
Ultimately, the God who made us will judge each person
with perfect impartiality. He will find everyone of us incapable of keeping
his standard of righteousness. Because God is holy, he cannot tolerate
any sin at all, and therefore it is impossible for us to please him. But
God wanted us with him so much that he sent Jesus Christ to bridge the
gap between our unrighteousness and God's holiness. When we accept Jesus
as our Savior, he becomes our righteousness, and we come into God's loving
presence.
God's character and deeds are always completely
righteous. True righteousness comes only from him.

Jeremiah 23:5-6
Daniel 9:14
Matthew 5:20
Human beings, left to their own understanding of right and wrong, fall
short of God's standard, which results in those human beings spending
eternity separated from God.
Psalm 1:5
Isaiah 64:6
Romans 3:10
Philippians 3:9
The only way sinful humans can face a holy God is to take God's
righteousness upon themselves. Those who accept by faith that Christ died
on the cross in order to purchase righteousness for them (see Atonement)
are declared righteous; that is, for Jesus Christ's sake, God now views
them as righteous.
2 Corinthians 5:21
Philippians 1:11
When Abraham (see Abraham) believed God's word, God credited Abraham's
faith as righteousness.
