Seven
Lucky number seven...seven days in a week...seven deadly sins- you get
the picture. Seven is an important number in the Bible too. Seven is the
number of God is considered the number of perfection. Through out the
Bible it seems that God works in sevens, perhaps to remind us of his control
of everything. He created everything in six days and on the seventh day
he rested. Jesus Christ fed a multitude of people with seven loaves of
bread.
Jesus
used the number seven in reference to forgiveness (see Forgiveness). One
of his disciples asked how many times he should forgive someone, asking
if seven times was enough. Jesus corrected him, saying that he should
always forgive, no matter how many times he had been wronged- not only
seven times, but seventy-seven times (see Matthew 18:22).
After
spending six days creating the earth (see Creation), God rested on the
seventh day. Likewise, he commands us to take one day out of the week
to rest (see Rest).
