Holy Spirit Before Jesus came to the earth, the Holy Spirit guided and directed select people at specific times for specific purposes. To prophets, he revealed future events and warnings of judgment. To kings, he gave wisdom to rule. But when Jesus was near the end of his life on earth, preparing his disciples for his impending death and resurrection, he promised that the Holy Spirit would, form that time on, be with his followers all the time. Forty days after Jesus' resurrection, he ascended to heaven. Ten days after that, on the Jewish day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples of Jesus. "Tongues of fire" appeared above each of them. The believers "were filled with the Holy Spirit and bean to speak in others Tongues as the Spirit enabled them" (Acts 2:4), and Multitudes of people Miraculously understood the Christians praising God in their own languages. The Holy Spirit helped the believers to go out into the world, boldly tell others about Jesus and form the church. Today the Holy Spirit works in out hearts, drawing us to seek God. Once we trust Jesus Christ as Savior, the Holy Spirit guides and teaches us, revealing truth to us. We can rely on him to give us words when we don't know what to say.
