Steal
Robin
Hood, the renegade outlaw of English ballads, is lauded for robbing from
the rich and giving to the poor. It seems like a fair turnabout, yet God
tells us quite sternly that stealing-no matter what the reason is a work
of the devil. Instead of stealing, God calls his people to work diligently,
and he promises to supply their every need. Those who are stealing must
immediately stop doing so.
There
is another kind of thief: Satan. The Bible says that his ultimate purpose
is to "steal and kill and destroy" (John 10:10), thereby either
ruining our witness for Christ, which then prevents people from coming
to know God as Savior.
God
commands his people not to steal.
