Time
Time governs our lives. Our day planners help us manage it. We eat by
it. We sleep by it. We're upset if people don't respect it. God, however
is not constrained by time. He created time, and - though it's hard for
us to grasp - he exists outside of time. Because he contains time, he
knows the future and is able to reveal it in prophecy.
God
has a clear understanding of time. In the Bible, he warned that all people
should live for him because the time is coming when he will return to
the earth. While some believe they can delay serving God, we are commanded
to serve God now. We are to take advantage of the moments God gives us
to share the gospel.
We're
not told the day or the hour when Christ will return. Some people believe
we are not told this information so we will be alert and watching, doing
God's work actively, rather than putting off the work until just before
the deadline. However, throughout Scripture, we are given signs to watch
for that will indicate his return.
God's
qualities were established before time began. He is both the creator and
sustainer of time.
