Trap
A desperate animal caught in the iron jaws of a trap may gnaw off it's own foot to escape death, only to spend the rest of its life maimed. Traps can be avoided only if they are detected or seen. But the whole point of a snare or trap is to take the victim by surprise.

Our enemy, Satan (see Satan), wants to trap us and trip us up. A person who is leading others to Christ is a hindrance to Satan's evil work. Satan is the father of lies and the deceiver. He does not want us to be a good example of God's love to the world. He attempts to fool us into doubting our salvation (see Salvation) or believing God cannot love us or use us. He attempts to entangle us with the pleasures or priorities of the world. He wants to see us destroy ourselves with sin and disobedience.

Traps are hindrances to our purpose and fatal to our spiritual progress. Therefore, we must be alert.
