John John the Baptist was Jesus' cousin the son of Zechariah and Elizabeth. His name came from his ministry of baptizing people who were returning to the ways of God. His life was prophesied about hundreds of years before his birth. He had a specific task: to preach repentance and to baptize people in preparation for the coming of the Son of God. While in prison, John the Baptist questioned whether Jesus was the Messiah. Jesus reassured John that he was indeed the Savior of the world. Herod beheaded John the Baptist. |

Believe Merely "believing" in God does not make someone a Christian any more than believing in exercise keeps one in shape; a person must actually exercise to stay in shape. Demons "believe" in God (James 2:19). They know he exists, but they don't choose to follow him. Believing that Jesus Christ is your Savior means believing that Jesus' death pays the penalty for your sin. As a result of this belief you repent-you turn away from your sin-and obey Jesus Christ. |

Joseph A second Joseph, the earthly "adoptive" father of Jesus Christ, makes the Christmas story complete. He cared for Mary and Jesus throughout his life. Joseph received the joy and blessing of God by being allowed to raise God' Son, Jesus. At Jesus' death, Joseph of Arimathea offered his new, empty tomb for Jesus' body. Joseph was a synagogue ruler, yet he embraced Jesus as God when the synagogue rejected Jesus. Joseph risked his standing in the church and community in order to care for Jesus' body after his death. All three of these men impacted history and obeyed God no matter how dangerous or difficult the circumstances. |

Moses Eighty years later, Moses was herding sheep in a desert when God recruited him for an incredible rescue mission. With God's help, Moses led the Israelites - over a million people - out of Egypt. Over the next 40 years, the Israelites faced the Egyptian army, walked through the Red Sea, drank water from a rock (twice!), heard firsthand the Ten Commandments, survived in the desert and finally reached the promised land. Today we remember Moses as a powerful leader, a servant of God and a man of faith. |

Peter Simon Peter was an amazing man of God. One minute we admire him, and the next minute we cringe because he's stuck his foot in his mouth again. One minute our hearts cry out to be like him, and the next minute we're relieved that we're not like him. Peter seemed to operate in extremes, yet God wa preparing him for something very special. |

Andrew Andrew is considered the"people person" of Jesus' tight-knit group - the one who always knew who was doing what. He is the one who found the boy with the bread and fish that led to one of Jesus' most amazing miracles (see John 6:5-13). |

Jews Jews are the physical descendants of Abraham through his grandson Jacob, the father of the Israelites. The label "Jew" came into use after the Babylonian captivity. The stories of Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther highlight God's protection of the people in the midst of great danger and opposition. |

Lamb Later, God sent his own Son, Jesus Christ, to earth as the Lamb of God. Because Jesus died to pay for the sins of all humanity, we never again need to sacrifice lambs. The innocent blood of Jesus covers our guilt, allowing us into God's kingdom for eternity. |
Heaven For those of us who have trusted Jesus Christ as Savior, heaven will be our home when we die. In fact, Jesus Christ said he was returning to heaven to prepare a home for us. |
Holy Spirit Before Jesus came to the earth, the Holy Spirit guided and directed select people at specific times for specific purposes. To prophets, he revealed future events and warnings of judgment. To kings, he gave wisdom to rule. But when Jesus was near the end of his life on earth, preparing his disciples for his impending death and resurrection, he promised that the Holy Spirit would, form that time on, be with his followers all the time. |

Time God has a clear understanding of time. In the Bible, he warned that all people should live for him because the time is coming when he will return to the earth. While some believe they can delay serving God, we are commanded to serve God now. We are to take advantage of the moments God gives us to share the gospel. |

He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not
worthy to untie.” Jesus the Lamb of God 29
The next day John
saw Jesus
coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb
of God,
who takes away the sin
of the world!
30 This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A
man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’
31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came
baptizing
with water
was that he might be revealed
to Israel.” Jesus’ first disciples 35
The next day John
was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When
he saw Jesus
passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb
of God!”
43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”
