God God has spoken to us in terms we can understand. The Bible is the record of his revelation - what he wants us to know about himself. God also became flesh and blood in the person of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who is 100 percent human and 100 percent God. Want to know what God is like? Study the life of Jesus Christ in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. |

Father As children of God, we can expect to be disciplined if we err. And we shouldn't be discouraged when this happens because discipline shows that God loves us. Just as good parents teach their children not to do things that will hurt them, so our Father in heaven teaches us what is best for us. |

Samaria In New Testament
times, the larger Jewish population scorned samaritans because they
were descendants of mixed marriages and had strayed from mainstream
Jewish teachings. Jesus Christ's stop in Samaria and his conversation
with a Samaritan woman were, therefore, particularly significant. Jesus
also told a story about a Samaritan who stopped on the road to help
a robbery victim after two Jewish religious leaders had passed by without
offering aid. |

Disciples In the Bible, the word "disciple" can apply to followers of John the Baptist, students of the Pharisees or the broader circle of people who believed Jesus' teachings. But it most often refers to the twelve disciples whom Jesus asked to follow him. They lived with him night and day and learned from his teaching and lifestyle. The Bible makes it clear that Jesus' followers were not perfect, but they knew enough to recognize that leaving everything they had in order to follow Jesus was worth the price. |
Jews Jews are the physical descendants of Abraham through his grandson Jacob, the father of the Israelites. The label "Jew" came into use after the Babylonian captivity. The stories of Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther highlight God's protection of the people in the midst of great danger and opposition. |

Gift Eternal life is
a gift from God that is received by faith. People who receive the gift
of salvation are born again - it's like a spiritual birth. In addition
to the gift of eternal life. God gives "spiritual gifts" to
those who believe in Jesus Christ. These spiritual gifts are abilities
God gives us to enable us to serve him and the church. One of the gifts
he gives is the gift of teaching - an ability to understand and explain
the Bible and train others in God's ways. Another gift God gives is
the gift of fait, which allows us to trust in God even in the most trying
circumstances. God gives many other gifts as well. |

Jacob Jacob, born to Isac
and Rebekah, was the second twin to come out of the womb. But before
he and his brother were born, God told Rebekah that two nations would
come from her and that the older would serve the younger. This was in
direct opposition to the traditions of that day, which held that the
oldest son should receive the primary inheritance. |

Worship True worship involves the whole being of the worshiper.
The worshiper places the worshiped being or thing ahead of every other
concern, including concern for self: That's why worship is a sacrifice
(see Sacrifice). God calls us to worship him because he is the most
worthy recipient of our adoration. Worship overflows from our loving
relationship with our heavenly Father. |
Believe Merely "believing" in God does not make someone a Christian any more than believing in exercise keeps one in shape; a person must actually exercise to stay in shape. Demons "believe" in God (James 2:19). They know he exists, but they don't choose to follow him. Believing that Jesus Christ is your Savior means believing that Jesus' death pays the penalty for your sin. As a result of this belief you repent-you turn away from your sin-and obey Jesus Christ. |
Time God has a clear understanding of time. In the Bible, he warned that all people should live for him because the time is coming when he will return to the earth. While some believe they can delay serving God, we are commanded to serve God now. We are to take advantage of the moments God gives us to share the gospel. |
Salvation |
Work It is tempting sometimes to think that we deserve the credit for the material rewards received for our labor, but God says fruitful labor is a blessing from him. The Bible condemns those who do not work but expects to benefit from the labor of others. But work that is done simply for the sake of work or material gain is meaningless. We should do everything as though we are working for God; then we will be good witnesses of God before other people. The only work that will last is that which furthers the kingdom of God. At the end of our lives, God will evaluate the work we have done in his kingdom (see Kingdom). |

When a Samaritan
woman
came to draw water,
Jesus
said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8.
(His disciples
had gone into the town to buy food.) |
21.
Jesus
declared, “Believe
me, woman,
a time
is coming when you will worship
the Father
neither on this mountain
nor in Jerusalem.
22. You Samaritan
worship
what you do not know; we worship
what we do know, for salvation
is from the Jews.
23. Yet a time
is coming and has now come when the true worshippers
will worship
the Father
in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
24. God
is spirit,
and his worshippers
must worship
in spirit
and in truth.”
27.
Just then his disciples
returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman.
But no one asked, “What do you want? Or “Why are you talking
with her? |
