My bedroom in Bukavu. At night I sleep here underneath a small mosquito net. We are awake much of the night,
listening to a continous mixture of nearing gunfire, and the BBC news, crackling on our short wave radio.

photographs by Lee Cantelon, c. 1994

All photographs were taken using a reliable 1970's Nikkormat
camera and 35mm Nikkor lens. The film was Ilford FP4. The
die-cast aluminum body of the Nikkormat make it a good
field camera, very sturdy. Once, in an emergency, I detached
the lens and used the body
as an improvised hammer.
